Hi

June Kim

Cartoonist

I am a graphic novel artist and illustrator based in Brooklyn, NY.

I grew up in Korea where comic books were a big part of my daily life: reading pocket-size Japanese Manga series like Dragon Ball, Ranma 1/2, Slamdunk at recess and creating my own stories. A timely encounter with Sandman and Drawn & Quarterly comic books convinced me to come to the US and study cartooning. After four years at SVA, I became fluent in both American comics and Manga styles.

My first graphic novel, 12 days was nominated for the Stonewall book awards. I self-published two nonfiction food comic series Sporks! and Egg Show, and is currently working on a graphic family memoir.

When I am not working on comics, I illustrate commercial storyboards and teach cartooning at the School of Visual Arts. In my free time, I enjoy watching other people’s dogs in Fort Greene Park with my wife.
